PROVO FOR PALESTINE

MISSION STATEMENT

Provo for Palestine is a grassroots organization initiated by members of the Provo community in response to the recent massacre in Gaza (12/27/08-01/18/09). We represent a variety of cultural, political, religious, and academic backgrounds, and came together over a common concern for the Palestinian people-particularly for those in Gaza and the West Bank.

We hope to promote a greater understanding of the Palestinian perspective among members of the Provo community and raise money to alleviate the suffering of victims under occupation. Cross-community interaction builds mutual recognition and emphasizes our humanity. It is our intention to foster respect, empathy, and affinity between individuals in Provo and Palestine through advocacy and humanitarian aid.

25% of funds received will be dedicated to advocacy via the following tactics:

  • Setting up local information stands
  • Distributing printed material
  • Addressing issues and problems to decision-makers and local press
  • Planning informative and artistic events within the Provo community
  • Hosting lectures where accomplished speakers and native Palestinians relate relevant information to a Provo audience
  • Establishing a penpal program between the Provo and Palestinian youth
75% of funds received will be utilized for direct humanitarian aid in the following manner:
  • The collecting and shipping of essential medical supplies to the Gaza community
  • Aiding individual families to reclaim a dignified quality of life (sufficient food and shelter) via direct contacts in Palestine
  • Sponsor the creative development of Palestinian children and young artists by making available basic art supplies, books, and fellowships, which will allow them an optimal mode of communicating their politcal predicament, cultural inheritance, and personal ideals
  • Assisting trained humanitarian workers from the Provo community that seek to directly aid and befriend the people of Gaza
